In 2018, Nyayo Tanzania established the DS Memoria Daycare Centre as part of its commitment to supporting women beneficiaries and the broader community. The daycare was created to address the challenges faced by young mothers who struggle to balance childcare responsibilities with their income-generating activities. Many women expressed that their businesses and jobs were negatively impacted because they had to stay home to care for their children. Others noted that while they worked, their children were often left without proper supervision, depriving them of adequate attention and development during the day.

The daycare service began modestly, starting with just three children, but quickly gained the trust of the community. Over time, more mothers enrolled their children, and today the center can accommodate up to 40 children annually. It provides care for children aged two to four years, offering a safe and nurturing environment where they can learn, play, and grow while their mothers engage in productive activities.

Children at DS Memoria Daycare benefit from a comprehensive range of services, including early learning and basic education, play and recreational activities, three nutritious meals each day, and designated rest time. These services ensure both the well-being of the children and their early development in a supportive setting.

By establishing DS Memoria Daycare, Nyayo Tanzania has created a practical solution that directly addresses the needs of women entrepreneurs. Mothers can now continue their businesses and other income-generating activities with peace of mind, knowing their children are in safe hands. Simultaneously, children receive quality care and opportunities for early childhood development.

The daycare has become a symbol of community trust, empowerment, and shared responsibility. It exemplifies Nyayo Tanzania’s holistic approach to women’s economic empowerment, recognizing that true empowerment involves overcoming both economic and social barriers that women face in their daily lives.
